Change is afoot!

Hey everyone! With 2.2 nearing, we're facing new dungeons to explore, new mysteries to unravel, new primals to defeat, and new labyrinthine caverns to map. There are changes in afoot in Eorzea, and it's time for us to make some changes of our own as well.

Website

The first change we have to announce is a new website! This website, hosted on Guildwork, is easier to navigate, has all the features we need to get sorted, and will help us plan our next raids, dungeons, or naked craft-offs with ease.

To sign up, follow this walkthrough!

It'll take you through the steps to create your account if you don't have a Guildwork account already, and to get registered as an official Espers esper! Once your character has been imported, you can use Guildwork to track your leveling progress, loot drops, and more.

The website was set up for us by our own Ada Prowbreaker, and Ada has agreed to be in charge of the website going forward, so be sure to give her a big thanks when you see her next (or complain to her instead of me if something breaks)! Also, this post comes with a promotion to Specialist, to recognize all of the time and effort she's put into setting it up for us all to use, and make it all straightforward.

The site is mostly self-explanatory, but there's a few changes worth noting.

Primarily: all non-Officer forums are now visible to the public, and our custom access groups are gone. Creating and updating custom groups in Guildwork is a manual process (read: a pain in the ass for site admins), so for now, this means no private forums or features for specific raid groups or linkshells. Given that, to my knowledge, very few groups were making use of their private domains, we made the choice to go on without it.

This means raid groups, linkshells, etc. will have all their posts accessible to the whole world (or some subset of it), which means that you can now share your strategies, ideas, event planning, and jokes with the rest of the world. It also means, obviously, that anything you post will be visible by others, so no discussing Esper secrets!

We may look into making some of the forums hidden to non-members; if you have an opinion on the matter, please speak to myself or let Ada know!

Officers

Let's talk Officers! When we originally started this FC, we all had lofty goals, but no illusions about what we were going to be facing. We knew we'd have to work at making a great free company, and we'd have to work to earn our members' respect and trust over time. What we didn't know was how many members we'd actually get! The FC grew explosively, even before launch, and despite a drop in population as people run out of time for MMOs or move on to other groups and servers, we're still a large FC, and one to be proud of.

Officer representation has been a problem, however; many of our officers haven't been online regularly for quite some time. Some never have the opportunity to log in, and it's become difficult for people to find an officer to speak to when they have a concern to raise.

We've decided to solve that by promoting some of our long-time Espers to Officer. Please be gentle with them at first, but you're welcome to go to them with any concerns that you may have.

The first person we're promoting is Marcoux Erebus. Marc has been with the FC since the beginning; he's levelled every class and job, and he's never once turned down the opportunity to help any player, old or new, with any content that needs running. Whether it's Chimera and Hydra for a relic weapon, Titan, Ifrit, and Garuda for primals, or just Sastasha for your very first dungeon introduction, Marc always has time for his fellow Espers, and I'm sure he'll bring that helpful demeanor to the entire FC in an even bigger way than before!

A discussion on helpful, friendly, and giving players wouldn't be complete without mentioning Nya Nyaoei. Nya has always been eager to run anything, with anyone, at any time. Since the FC launched, Nya went out of his way to learn as much as he could about the game, and to bring that knowledge back to Esper groups so that we could all learn and grow even faster. Most recently, Nya brought in even more of his friends from another FC on Gilgamesh, and they've rapidly become our friends too, and they're all such wonderful people and are such a great match that it's hard to imagine they haven't been here since the beginning. For his helpfulness and resourcefulness, as well as for his extreme headhunting ability, Nya has also been offered a position as Officer, which he has accepted.

Raiding and combat is only one of the facets of the world in which we play together, however; every warrior needs armor, every mage needs food, and every house needs furniture. Momoko Moko has also been with us since the beginning, and in that time she's become an expert crafter, embodying her hard-earned Builder of the Realm title. Most notably, she donated millions of gil to our housing fund, totaling 15-20% of the actual purchase price (actual numbers may vary, please consult an accountant for details). For her staggering financial contribution, her willingness to help anyone gear up, and her friendly and welcoming demeanor, we've managed to persuade Momoko to join the ranks of Officer.

Please welcome our new recruits with whatever punishing philosophical quandaries you can come up with, and I know we'll have Espers United in good hands well into 2.2 and beyond.
