For the first thirty seconds, I do nothing at all.
The ten seconds after I wake up, I spend trying to ascertain that it was indeed a crash that woke me up; that it wasn't some fragment of a half-lucid dream, or simply me knocking my glasses off my bedside table.
The next twenty seconds, I spend trying to convince myself that it wasn't anything, or at least not anything out of the ordinary. That my house is, after all, rather old and ponderous, and prone to all sorts of odd creaking and groaning and settling during the night, and that there's really no need to get up and investigate.
That's not why I'm still in bed, though. The reason I'm still in bed isn't that I'm sure it's nothing; it's that, in the back of my mind, I'm starting to be afraid that it isn't.

Realizing you didn't leave the peanut oil on the counter before bed, you look around the kitchen and realize there are things laid out everywhere and the cabinets have all been gone through!

You cautiously approach the portal, but as you near, a hair-standing growl erupts from the hallway a few feet from you. You spin around towards it, stepping onto a can of something that causes you to trip! As you fall straight for the portal entrance and the purple glow washes over you, you realize that your other foot has left the floor as well and now you are in free fall to who knows where! You close your eyes and pray.

You swim briskly to the surface of the water above you. You aren't far from a dark shore nearby. You swim towards dry land. As you do, you notice that you appear to be in a large cave of some sort… mostly filled with water. You see only one exit, a tunnel on the shore with some faint light coming from around a bend in the cave. As you exit the water and start to round the corner, you here a splash in the water behind you. You look back, but can't see anything in the darkness. You hurry out into the light!

You breathe deeply. "Okay, calm down Kristina. Maybe this is a dream. Just wake up." You pinch yourself. "Ouch!" Obviously not a dream. You hear the sound of something running towards you and quickly hide behind a rock near the cave entrance. A flock of HUGE birds run past! Larger than ostriches, but almost… chicken-like? You feel yourself become faint and fall into a nearby bush as you lose consciousness.
